God Has Established His Justice In The Earth

Parish Desk - Reflections
January 12, 2020January 11, 2020

The first reading teaches us that God has established His justice in the earth through His chosen one, in whom He is well pleased. And the gospel reading points out to us that the chosen one of God, in who God is well pleased, is the person of our Lord Jesus Christ. This is evident in event of baptism of Christ, wherein the heavens were opened and the spirits of God descended like a dove, and alighted on Jesus; and behold, a voice from heaven saying “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased”. This chosen one of God, we are told in the first reading, is to faithfully bring forth justice on earth, especially as the second reading indicates, that is, through not being partial in his duty of being a covenant to the people, a light to the nations, the opener of eyes that are blind, bringing out prisoners from the dungeon and those who sit in darkness; all these are available to anyone who fears the Lord and those who do right are acceptable to him. We therefore must ensure that we always do things that are acceptable to the Lord for his justice to reign always in our lives.

Prayer:

O God, may your justice ever live in me as I align myself with Christ Jesus, my Lord. Never allow the evil spirit of partiality be found in the judgments I make, especially when they have to do with passing Judgments on my brothers and sisters. Make me just to everyone I meet, as you, my Lord, are ever just to me.
