Jesus Satisfies Our Thirst

Parish Desk - Reflections

Thirst for Salvation

Jesus said, in the gospel reading, to the Samaritan woman that he is the one who has the living water, and whoever drinks it will never thirst again. The Samaritan woman wanted the living water so badly so that she would never thirst again or have to keep coming to the well of Jacob to draw water again and again. The woman did not understand that receiving Jesus into our lives means that our lives will never be arid again, because just like through Moses, God gave his people water in the desert, as recorded in the first reading, so that the people of Israel did not die of thirst in the desert, so also Jesus in us will keep our hearts fresh and alive for God to dwell in. To have Jesus, the living water, living in us means that our hope of being alive always is assured, and like the second reading says: “Hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit which has been given to us”.

PRAYER FOR THE WEEK: Lord Jesus, you are the life giving water, grant me the grace of having you constantly in my heart so that you will wash away from my heart sin and the inclination to sin. May I always thirst for your spiritual virtues so that I may live a righteous life.

TRAIN A VIRTUE FOR CHRIST: (Courtesy) Be polite in your attitude and behaviour towards others.

MEDITATION POINTS FOR THE WEEK:
(a) Do I believe in courtesy? Why?
(b) How can being courteous help my spiritual life?
(c) is it important to be courteous? Why?

MEMORY VERSE FOR THE WEEK: They must not slander anyone, but be peaceable, gentle, showing complete courtesy to all people (Titus 3:2).

Write down below something from today’s homily. Reflect on it for the coming week
